Throughout my life, I’ve sought out the advice and teachings of great leaders. One who I admire more than most is Anthony Robbins.

I recently came across a message Tony and his wife Sage shared as holiday wishes and advice for the coming year.

In this message, they discussed how we don’t actually experience our lives; we experience the lives we focus on. It’s all about perspective. What’s wrong is always available, but so is what’s right.  

Tony talks about how a part of our brain always looks for what’s wrong. It’s an evolutionary survival mechanism designed to keep us alive and send us into fight or flight. This monkey part of our brain helped keep us alive in our caveman days, but it often works to our detriment in our modern age. This part of our brain takes over anytime we feel stressed.

His talents were in finding opportunities.   He was excellent at rooting out opportunities where others saw none. His friends, doctors, dentists, lawyers, and carpenters would come to him with excellent services and products to sell. They would come to him destitute, having stockpiled their knowledge and goods and having no way to connect with those who might benefit from what they offered.

This man would comfort them. He would hold their hand, pour them a cup of tea, and have them explain their business, their products, their services, and their problems.
