For the most recent Super Bowl, advertisers ponied up about $4 million for each advertising spot.  They do this because the audience that the Super Bowl reaches is so large.  Over 100 million Americans tune in to the Super Bowl every year.  The audience around the rest of the world raises viewership even higher.  The huge numbers of people are why advertisers are willing to pay so much.

 

Small and even medium size business cannot afford the rates that are charged for advertising on the Super Bowl.  They have to find other ways to reach their audiences.  The best solution that these businesses are turning to is social media.  At one time that meant using Facebook.  That form of social media can reach as many if not more people than the Super Bowl.  It is also able to deliver that audience at a fraction of the price.

 

New reports are starting to show that Facebook is losing its appeal.  It still has many followers, but they are not as faithful as they used to be.  They do not log onto Facebook as often.  Most people blame the decline of Facebook on the various other types of social media available.  Twitter allows people to communicate using very few words.  They also now have developed an application called Vine that allows users to send 6 second videos.  Other social medial that targets specific niches are also growing.  They all offer the small business ways to market that they did not have available before.

 

The experts may not agree on which form of social media will be the best for any business.  What is clear is business will have to target the right audiences to get the best results when marketing with social media.  If you send your message to the people that care about it, they will listen.
