You Have To Be Their Mama!

Cavett Roberts, founder of the National Speakers Association, used to say that most people are walking around, umbilical cord in hand looking for a new place to plug it in. 

 

The umbilical cord suggests that people are looking for a mother.  

 

And what is the first thing that comes to mind when we think about mothers?

 

They teach us…

 

They show us how to do things…

 

They care for and about us…

 

They nurture us…

 

And they love us. 

 

Invariably, every time I say that, there is at least one person who says, “not my mother, she used to beat the hell out of me for no reason at all.”

 

While I empathize with folks who have that in their past, I am speaking in general terms, and I am sure you will agree that is what most people think about.

 

Here is the point, your prospects do not want a tyrant to order them about…

 

They want someone who cares about them and who wants to help them.

 

If you can show them that you care about them, you increase your chances of doing business with them exponentially.

 

Side note: A great copywriter can make your prospects think they individually are the most important person in your life.

 

You should care about your clients, and if you do not, you need to find other clients.

 

Anyway, you need to communicate with your prospects, give them value, build trust and convince them that you truly care.
