Elon Musk—the rockstar of the business world who has been turning heads for decades.
His leadership, vision and daring in his companies including Tesla, SpaceX, and Neuralink, and more recently Twitter keeps him relevant and in the headlines.
Recently I came across an article on Linked in about Elon Musk (See the bottom of this bog post for a link to the full article)
The author discusses the secrets of his success habits, business strategy and work-life balance. I found this article interesting because many of Musk’s core beliefs and habits for success mirror ones I’ve adapted over the years in my personal life and in my career.
Elon’s attributes his ability to stay motivated, focused, and creative to the following success habits:
- He reads a lot. He goes through a never-ending stream of books on physics, engineering, biographies and philosophy.
- He learns from experts. He seeks advice from those with more knowledge and experience than him in his fields of interest. He consults with and hires experts and never stops learning. He frequently listens to podcasts, reads blog articles and attends conferences to keep up with the latest trends and developments in what interests him.
- He has visions and goals which guide his choices. He references specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals that align with his core beliefs. More importantly, he constantly monitors his progress towards these goals and adjusts his plans when needed.
- He prioritizes his time and energy for his most important tasks and uses the Pareto principle, or the 80/20 rule. This means he looks for 20% of tasks that generate 80% of the results he’s looking for. He then focuses his time and energy on that 20 percent.
- He looks for creative, outside the box ways to solve problems. He examines each problem by breaking it down into fundamental truths and reasons why the problems exist. With this understanding often comes the insight needed to solve it, or at least work for a feasible solution.
From his bold vision to his relentless pursuit of innovation, Musk's insights can inspire and guide entrepreneurs and business leaders on their path to success.
- Shoot for the moon! (Or in Musk’s case, Mars.) He routinely sets audacious goals that challenge the status quo. He dreams big and thinks beyond the confines of conventional wisdom. By aiming for the extraordinary, you can unlock untapped potential and drive innovation within your industry.
- Musk has consistently disrupted established industries, from electric vehicles to space exploration. He understands the power of disruption as a catalyst for change and growth.
