How Can You Increase Email Engagement?

As we found out in the last two blogs, things are changing in big ways right now! No, seriously - personal privacy is becoming a new industry trend and it's just a matter of time before Google and Microsoft will jump on board with Apple in making our lives (as marketers) miserable. Do you know the best way to thrive in change? You need to fully embrace it. That is why I would like to offer you a shortlist of tips on how to increase your email campaign response rates.

1) Check out your subscriber list. If it isn't getting through, there's no engagement. That is the basis of any marketing campaign planning - just go through your customer list and filter prospects that haven't engaged with your content in the last 6 months. You might want to try a reactivation campaign to win these customer's back - send a questionnaire or an exclusive deal but do that separate from your day to day marketing.  If they still don't engage - just drop the dead weight. You only want to advertise to people that are interested in your brand and your product. Also, use a third party option to 'scrub' your list. You don't want to be sending to spam traps and dead end addresses. Our favorite is Klean13

2) Plan more engaging content. There are a lot of ways to get your list to be more involved, even through email. Try to add a picture, GIF, a personal message, an update on your service, promotional offer, website link, a video, joke and countless others things. Make sure to be genuine and personable - try to be yourself as much as you can in your email interaction. You might try to congratulate your customer on a state holiday or educate them in a blog.

3) Experiment with the timing of the email, its layout and design. Make sure to try and test when your email is coming out, mix different approaches for subject lines, Post Script and other elements of your email campaign. Pay close attention to email's KPIs: deliverability, open rate, unsubscribe rate, bounce rate, complaints rate etc.

4) Ask your audience a question. You can ask your customers for feedback on what content they prefer, simple suggestions about email topics or just ask them to share something. Sending such proactive emails will indicate your personalized approach to your marketing. This will ensure your audience that you're not a robot pushing generalized spam in their mailbox, but a caring and attentive business owner. Good stuff.
