When to Prepare for Black Friday - Part 1

Posted by Richard Bueckert on Sep 15, 2022 8:00:00 AM

Regardless of what your business is, you should be getting ready for Black Friday... NOW.

You probably already know this but Black Friday 2022 is one of the most hotly anticipated shopping holidays of the year.

This year, Black Friday is November 25/2022 – one day after US Thanksgiving and if you want to maximize this one day “selling extravaganza” for your business, you need to start NOW.

The 10-week countdown is upon you and both Canadian and American Thanksgiving Days are coming...

...and with them the “hardcore shopper’s” favourite unofficial holiday: Black Friday.

Thankfully, scoring a deal on Black Friday no longer requires you camping out overnight and risking “herd crush” just to score a new TV or iPhone. You can create your own "Black Friday Gold Mine"

The reality is that your customers, clients, or patients are looking to buy pretty much ANYTHING. The National Retail Federation reported that more than 174 million Americans shopped from Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday, which beat the association’s pre-holiday prediction that 164 million consumers would indulge. – via Forbes

Now, your products or services probably don’t inspire people to camp out at your business. I know mine doesn’t.

But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t pounce all over the year’s biggest feeding frenzy. But you need to start planning NOW

We'll go over a week-by-week glance at preparing for a Black Friday promotion.

NOW: Set your promotion goals

You don't have a Black Friday Sale just because “everyone else is having a Black Friday Sale” That's just dumb.

Choose a promotion that helps your business, whether by clearing old inventory, launching a new offering, or boosting sales of a seasonal product or service. Give this some serious consideration. In the powersports business, many retailers use Black Friday to offer “end-of-season” pricing on last summer’s inventory, then offer free storage until spring thus giving them a much-needed cash flow surge in the slow season.

While setting your goals, look up and review what happened last year during the holiday season. What were people asking for last November and December? What were your best and worst sellers? What kind of promotions did you deploy? What did you send? Was it digital or traditional? Who received your offers? Who opened them, and who responded to them?
