WHY BE SMART WHEN YOU CAN BE BRILLIANT?

My guess is that you’ve heard the old acronym for goal-setting: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound (S.M.A.R.T.) Goals.

As the President of eLaunchers, a strategic marketing company, I lead my organization by embracing and mastering the art of S.M.A.R.T. goal setting for our clients. While achieving S.M.A.R.T. goals is commendable, collaborating with eLaunchers unlocks a pathway to success exclusive to those possessing exceptional brilliance.

You can’t hit a target you can’t see. This is why you must be specific with your goal setting. At eLaunchers, we spend a great deal of time upfront with each of our clients to be clear on the results they wish to achieve. A vague goal, like “I want to increase sales,” gets you to know where. Clearly stating, “ I want to increase quarterly sales by 15% through a targeted marketing campaign and by expanding product offerings,” is specific and ensures a clear understanding of the desired outcome and the actions needed to achieve it.

If you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it. This is why I insist on measuring and monitoring performance indicators such as the number of units sold, revenue generated, and customer conversion rates for my business and every business owner I work with. Quantifiable data lets you assess and adjust strategies, helping you stay on course and achieve your goals.

“If you currently serve a local market and aim to become a global industry leader overnight, this may be a bit unrealistic…at least the overnight part. 😊 One of the biggest points I emphasize to my clients is the importance of setting realistic and achievable goals. This helps you avoid frustration and stay motivated. Instead of trying to become an overnight sensation, set goals that first let you expand outside your neighborhood. You can still conquer the world; just do it one step at a time.

Suppose you’re committed to improving your customer experience. In that case, a relevant goal might be to increase customer retention rates by 15% through new loyalty programs or to start a customer survey and referral program. You want to set goals that will contribute to your core values.

Lastly, your goals must be Time-Bound. “A goal without a deadline is just a dream.” – Robert Herjavec.

Deadlines add a sense of urgency and accountability. If you want to achieve a 15% sales increase and plan to do this with a new marketing campaign, you need to have a timeframe in mind to help measure your results and gauge the campaign's effectiveness.

In practical terms, business owners use the S.M.A.R.T. framework to transform abstract aspirations into actionable plans. Whether launching a new product line, expanding market share, or enhancing customer satisfaction, applying S.M.A.R.T. principles provides a roadmap for success and facilitates informed decision-making throughout the journey.

Applying the S.M.A.R.T. goal will undoubtedly yield compounding positive effects on your business. However, working collaboratively with eLaunchers offers a unique advantage—unlocking a level of success reserved for the truly brilliant.
