Set S.M.A.R.T. Goals for Your Business and Accomplish Great Things by The End of This Year

I recently came across an article in Forbes Magazine about setting S.M.A.R.T. Goals.

You’ve probably heard the acronym

As the President of eLaunchers, a strategic marketing company, I run my organization by setting and achieving S.M.A.R.T. goals for my clients.

This article, (see link to full article below), does an excellent job of describing how setting goals with the right mindset and execution can deliver powerful results in your business.

I found this information actionable and informative, so I decided to share my take on S.M.A.R.T goals here with you.

S.M.A.R.T. Goals

Specific

Vague daydreams will not do. ‘Someday I may’, or ‘one day I ought to’ won’t cut it. When you have a goal in mind, Get down to the details. Clearly define your desired outcome—maybe it’s a specific sales target you wish to reach, or a percentage of market share you’re looking to capture. Whatever the goal, clearly define it and lay out the actions needed to accomplish it.

Measurable

Management Guru Peter Drucker once said, “If you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it.”  This holds true with your goals. You need to have quantifiable objectives to track your progress. The right data and analytics help you make strategic moves that get you closer to your desired result and let you know if you are on the right track.

Achievable

Your mother might have told you that you can be anything you want as long as you put your mind to it. And while this is a nice story, it’s not realistic. If your goal is to play the violin at Carnegie Hall by the end of the year, but you’ve never picked up an instrument, you’re unlikely to hit your mark. Set a target you’re capable of reaching. Once you accomplish that, then you can reassess and stretch to a new target after.

Relevant

Your goals need to be aligned with your mission and your purpose. You’re not setting goals because you’re bored or have nothing better to do. Set goals that help you reach new heights with your business.

 Time-Bound

This one is important. There’s an old saying, “If deadlines didn’t exist, nothing would ever get done.”   The same is true with your goals. Set yourself strict deadlines for accomplishing certain parts of your goals. Make sure you stick to them. Otherwise, your goals drift off into the world of make-believe and daydreams.

My friends, setting and following the S.M.A.R.T. goal strategies outlined in this blog will have compounding positive effects in your business.
